What You Need To Know About Sun Protection!
Sun protection for face vs. body - what's the difference?
The most important thing to remember is just to use sunscreen on both your face and body! However, it is true that there is actually a difference between sunscreen for the body and the face. The skin on the face is much thinner than that on the rest of the body; sebaceous and sweat glands are closer to the surface and can cause enlarged pores. You may notice that the skin on your face is much different from the skin on the rest of the body. People with oily or very sensitive facial skin should pay close attention to the type of sunscreen they use. Ingredients and consistency in these products are different from normal body lotions and contain fewer so-called wetting agents; these are substances that spread faster on the skin, e.g. near the mucous membranes (eyes, mouth). There are now plenty of day creams and foundations available, with a high sun protection factor that not only care, but also protect your face and skin from UV radiation.
Which products are right for skin problems such as rosacea, acne or pigment spots?
As teenagers, we often heard: "Go in the sun to help dry your pimples!" - Now we know this is false!
This is actually one of the worst things you can do to your already stressed skin. In addition to the harmful UV rays, which cause severe skin damage and ageing, sweat production is also boosted. Bacteria form automatically on the surface of the skin and can cause irritation and redness which may not even be noticeable at first. Sunlight will not alleviate your spots, and instead will only irritate your skin more!
- So what can you do?
Use products that are tailored to the needs of your skin. Make sure to look for non-comedogenic formulas and do not use waterproof products!
- Rosacea
Sun protection is essential for those suffering from rosacea! Only use UV protection products for sensitive skin. However, there are also products specially tailored for rosacea, if your skin reacts strongly to the sun's rays.
- And Hyperpigmentation?
Hyperpigmentation is another topic entirely- people with hyperpigmentation should definitely not forget to use sun protection. Use a product that is at least SPF 30, or even better, SPF 50. There are also special sun protection products for the face that help prevent sun-related hyperpigmentation. These help to reduce the appearance of dark spots and prevent them from reappearing.
